Filling pancake much?

Wow. Just wow. I’ve managed to eat two stacks of pancakes from Shoreditch, but I could not continue at Becky’s. I’m not sure why. But, it could be that the pancakes are a little too thick.

Having said that, it’s still AMAZING. I’ve been wanting to visit this little place in Naxxar, which is at the main road, close to the parish church – for quite some time. I would always see a lot of tasty posts on their Facebook, so last Sunday, I made it my mission to go and see what the hype was really all about.

It didn’t fail me. Do not expect a fancy place. Just go there for their amazing food and pancakes. I have yet to taste their burgers and milkshakes. (They are also very filling, from what I could see)

Till the next time, Becky’s! For now, thank you for making my ‘cheat’ meal experience worth it – and Bueno! 😉

It’s never too late to talk about Demel

If you ever go to Vienna, do visit Demel.

Let me put it this way, it’s like going to Rome and along the way you must also go to the Vatican. Otherwise, it would be illogical if you’ve been to Rome and did not go the Vatican.

Back to topic – Demel is, in my opinion one of the best pastry shops in Europe. I’ve been to fancy coffee shops in Europe but none really match up to Demel’s standard. Yes, it may be a little overpriced, especially if you buy their chocolates (they’re all downstairs, a lovely wide selection to choose from, to take back with you at home!)

But, the place is like an attraction in itself. It’s always busy, or at least, it happened to be so when I’ve visited. Still, it’s not overly crowded. One can still relax over tea or coffee and a delicious piece of cake to satisfy that sweet tooth!

The new cool snack bar

Danny’s at Qormi is one of a kind. It’s too modern and ‘hip’ to be called a snack bar. This ‘snack bar’ is located at Qormi’s industrial estate, in a very busy bypass. But if you want to relax a little in such a cool place, either during your lunch break or during a busy Saturday morning while running errands, Danny’s is the place to try out.

The staff  is young and energetic, really friendly and charismatic.

I like Danny’s as they offer a variety of foods, perhaps a little unusual too (from what an ordinary snack bar may offer) and the healthy options are delicious and reasonably priced. Another plus is that while you’re there, the kitchen is on full display, thus, the place is always kept clean.

In conclusion, I’ve never been to a Qormi snack bar where you get silver service-like treatment. Modern in style is the way to go!

Oh, and the homemade ice tea is heavenly too!

Nadur should not be famous only for it’s annual Carnival street party…

…Just sayin’.

I’m taking you to our sister island, Gozo. It’s smaller than Malta and there’s still some trees/greenery left too!

Nadur is a quaint little village, which is mostly famous during Carnival season that happens around February. A celebration of colours, dressing up, excessive drinking, well…one big street party all through the weekend.

But, I like to go to Nadur to eat at The Fat Rabbit. The portions, as you can notice, are huge and it’s really not expensive. And trust me, the food is of great quality.

Highly recommended when in Gozo to dine out for dinner in a quiet and intimate place.

But if you want to club a little, darling, do it in style.

There are many cocktail places and most are really good. But, The Thirsty Barber has got mad skills when it comes to cocktail making. This is the topnotch place for cocktails. They are pricey yes, but you have to go at least once in your life when in Malta AND in Paceville.

If you want to dance to jazz music or pleasantly listen to live music, why not do it with a stylish drink in hand?

Cheers, hun!

Give me the burgers & pancakes, not clubbing

The title says all. One cannot go to Paceville to simply get wasted and dance the night away. Oh no. Well, Paceville these days is filled with gentlemen’s clubs and very little discos, most – have sadly closed down.

So, Shoreditch is a godsent – well, if you’re a foodie anyway. This burger place is situated right in the heart of Paceville in Malta. The two disadvantages that this place has got are 1) It’s a small place for the volume of people who want to dine there. 2) They do not take any reservations if you’re a couple. I suppose, it’s for obvious reasons since the place is a little small. One time, I heard that they will be expanding the joint but so far, nothing has been done. -fingerscrossed- Someday, perhaps they will!

The burgers are MASSIVE and to DIE FOR & everything is homemade. They also offer breakfast, and the eggs benedict is super delicious.

But let’s also talk about the pancakes. YUM. Plenty of variety to choose from, from M&Ms, Kinder, Red Velvet…the chef likes to experiment with the food and desserts. Thus, they are definitely made from the heart!

The staff is super nice. Once, I had gone during the afternoon, and thankfully I found a table. But since I was on my own, the waiter asked me politely to move three times from table to table. When it was time for dessert, to my surprise, I got it on the house for being understanding. I did not mind at all, as long as I was there eating my burger and my pancake, all was well!

Make sure to visit Shoreditch when in the area. If you are sad, stuff your face with a burger and a pancake not with alcohol. Trust me, you will not regret it! 😉

Shivas vs Maharaja

…I could have put ‘and’ instead of ‘vs’ cause ‘vs’ may connote that I want to make the two fight. Not really. It’s more of a comparison type of thing.

The two restaurants both offer Indian food. I do think that Maharaja is probably more authentic than Shivas. While google suggests that Shivas is good for kids and it’s a casual restaurant, somehow, I beg to differ. I’ve been to this restaurant on my own and also with someone. Shivas can be price-y and compared to Maharaja, it definitely is.

Maharaja represents a cheap eat place in Gzira, across Manoel Island, in a ‘homey and cheapy’ setting – but very value for money. The abundance of the food and the quality of the food is great.

While, Shivas represents a somewhat poshy place – probably cause it’s found in the heart of St Julians, across The Westin Dragonara hotel.

Both places are good Indian places, if not the best, in my opinion.

& now i’m craving Indian (badly!)

Sushi Timeeee!

Okurama, is hands down the best sushi place, in my humble opinion. Ever. It’s in St Julians and there’s actually two places, one is called International Taste and it’s a bit more on the posh side (the ambiance of the place). I’ve been to both places and I cannot decide which one is better. There are slight difference in the menu but they are both great. The only thing that I did not really enjoy is the main dishes, or at least it could have been my poor choice. But the sushi is really good. It’s not chunky, it’s not too sticky and it’s properly made and presented, which, in my opinion, when it comes to sushi – that is a must.

It’s also not too expensive when it comes to going out for good quality sushi in the island. Make sure how much you want to stuff your face with sushi as the buffet may get you in a tricky situation. Do not order too much sushi if you know you cannot eat it all as you would have to pay for the pieces which you did not eat. I agree with this. Why waste sushi? Thousands, if not millions or billions of people are starving to death and you are wasting food? Tsk tsk. Good on you, Okurama.

Sometimes opting for the al a carte option is better than the buffet – money wise. But again, it all depends on how much you can eat.

I’ve been to this place a million times now and I’ve gone to other sushi places, but this is definitely my favourite.

Carolina’s Petit Cafe

This lovely chic little place is situated in Lija, Malta. It’s a few minutes drive from where I live so I like going to this place if I want to have coffee or afternoon tea in style and in a quiet environment, away from the hustle and bustle. It’s a relatively new place, close to Lija’s church (central).

The desserts and milkshakes are super yummy! And everything is homemade, from the cakes to the food too. Ideal to go with a friend who you haven’t seen in ages to catch up and take a selfie with a piece of cake or a cupcake in view -winkwink-.
